Oil spill reaches Oman's mainland beaches

Oil Slick Diplomacy The latest oil spill from the grounded tanker Caroline Bezengi has reached mainland beaches in Oman, threatening marine habitats and a nearby protected area.

The spill is also a stark reminder of the shadowy world of sanctioned vessels and the geopolitics of energy.

According to geospatial data tracking company SynMax Maritime, the Caroline Bezengi departed the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in Russia in May with nearly 1 million barrels of oil on board.
