Lanness Robinson, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission (TBSC), attributes the success to providing high-quality services that meet the needs of event organizers. “We aimed to make it a positive experience for the media and provide them with opportunities to relax after completing their work,” he said. This approach has helped establish Tampa as a capable host city.

One of the most notable aspects of the SEC-Tampa partnership is its longevity, spanning over 30 years through the ReliaQuest Bowl (previously known as the Outback Bowl). Several other events have followed suit, demonstrating the trust that the SEC has placed in Tampa’s ability to deliver.

From fanfests to welcome parties, they plan activities for every night of the event, ensuring media members feel well taken care of. This focus on logistics has paid off, with ESPN broadcasting over 50 hours of content from the event.

Looking ahead, the SEC’s partnership with Tampa will continue with women’s gymnastics championships in 2027 and 2028. In a significant coup, the city will also host one of the nation’s top college football rivalries – Florida vs. Georgia – on Halloween weekend in 2027. The fact that this rivalry has been played in Jacksonville since 1933 adds to the excitement surrounding its relocation to Tampa.

Hosting such a high-profile event comes with great responsibility, as Robinson pointed out. “We want to preserve all of the traditions associated with that game,” he said, noting pregame activations and other fan-centric experiences will be maintained despite the change in location. This commitment to preserving tradition is essential for maintaining the integrity of iconic events.
